Directions:  Respond to the Essential Question in at least one, fully written paragraph.  Use specific references from class texts and your knowledge of history to support your response.  Respond to other student posts in order to have an online class discussion.

Blog Discussion Essential Question: Does regional and ethnic diversity make this country stronger or inhibit its progress?

Questions and issues to consider when writing your response.
  • What is the difference between regional diversity and ethnic diversity? Are both beneficial, both harmful, or is one beneficial and one harmful? Support your answer with specific references from both texts (American Nations and "Kansas and Al Qaeda") and your overall knowledge of U.S. History.
  • What positive and negative events in U.S. History have resulted from American diversity?
  • How does the New York Times Article ("Kansas and Al Qaeda") and American Nations respond to the question of diversity?  Do you support or oppose their views (use specific references from both texts to support your answer).

**Note:  Extra credit points will be awarded to students who respond to other student posts.
